The Edge social grille we were wet and tired and not really dressed appropriately. Regardless we were greeted with a warm smile given a quiet table in the dining room that hadn’t open yet and had one hell of a great experience. We started with local mussels in a garlic scented sauce with a touch of cream and tomato. It came with hot house made bread and were the best mussels I can recall having in a long time. They come off an island about 3 hrs away by ferry and were petite, creamy and yummy. With the mussels we decided to try some local micro brews. I had Grandville Island winter ale, which had vanilla and honey on the nose with date and figs notes. The first sip blew me away it was like caramel sauce and cream soda mixed with beer. It was sweet but had a clean finish. T had the Red Truck Ale, it was clean and crisp and I could drink this all afternoon while one of the winter ale and it was tome for me to move to wine. I went local again with a Bordeaux blend from Summerhill winery, it was an excellent compliment to the local red snapper I had over potato puree, with house-made chorizo and an olive and pistachio tapenade. T’s dindin was rocking as well he had the organic free-range buttermilk fried chicken with greens and mac n cheese. The chicken was amazing..I mean freakin amazing. cooked perfectly crisp and juicy…I can still savor the taste

The first thing I noticed as I walked into The Edge Social Grille and Lounge, located in the heart of the party district at Granville and Helmcken, was how calm and soothing the atmosphere was. Of course, that is to be expected at five-thirty on a Wednesday evening. The Edge gets very lively on the weekends, featuring live dj's and specials, but on this particular night I was suffering from a nagging head-cold, and the low light, comfortable decor and mellow music were just what I needed, as was the delicious comfort food that was to follow
Our order:
Seared albacore tuna with daikon in an orange ponzu vinaigrette - $14
Calamari with chillies, green scallions and roasted lemon yogurt - $12.5
Hand-made pumpkin and ricotta tortelloni with crushed amaretti, sage butter and Parmesan - $20
My photographer ordered from the Dine Out menu, choosing from several options at a fixed price of $28. Her meal consisted of potted Rossdown Farms chicken (raised in Richmond) with bread and butter pickels and crostini, followed by Lois Lake steelhead trout with braised tomato, Manila clams and leeks; with cheesecake topped by cranberry and blood orange marmalade for dessert, as well as Van Gogh espresso vodka chocolate truffles ($2 each).
The staff was very friendly and prompt, and our server showed an excellent familiarity with the wine list. Our appetizers were well-timed and tasty.
I'm something of a stickler for tzatziki with my calamari (the more garlic the better - especially when I'm feeling under the weather), so initially I was a bit let down by the chef's choice of lemon yogurt as a side. However, the yogurt itself was zesty and refreshing, and it provided a soothing balance to the welcome heat of the sliced green chilies.
The Lois Lake steelhead trout, served with smoky braised tomato and manila clams, was tender and juicy. Its crispy, fatty skin added great texture and loads of flavour. With the possible exception of the truffles, though, the tortelloni was my favorite part of the meal. Semi-firm pasta hugging ricotta with chunks of sweet, roasted pumpkin, served in a minimal, not-too-rich sage butter sauce. "Comfort food" would be an understatement.
Dessert was likewise delicious. The cheesecake was creamy and smooth, served upside-down in a small mason jar with graham cracker crust on top of cranberry and blood-orange marmalade, but it was roundly outshone by the Van Gogh espresso vodka truffles, which were absolutely decadent. Not being very large, you would think that one would disappear quickly, but after my first taste I made it last another five bites, savouring each rich morsel. The next time I'm partying on Granville I plan to stop by and grab one for a quick and tasty caffeine buzz.
All in all, The Edge Social Grille and Lounge gave a pleasant and satisfying dining experience.

During my lazy Labour Day Monday off I stopped by for a bite to eat and cheap Coronas ($18 for 4 on Mondays). I had the marinated olives with their homemade grilled flatbread and was pleasantly surprised at how tasty the olives were. My partner ordered one of their burgers and can't stop raving about them now. They use beautiful kaiser buns and I couldn't help but steal a bite. We ended our meal with a chocolate tuffle and no words can describe the melt-in-your-mouth awesomeness this truffle packed. We also shared the cheesecake which came upside down in a jam jar, soooo heavenly.
If you are in the area, go check it out!

The Edge Social Grille & Lounge
Location: Granville Street
An oasis in the Granville Street Entertainment District, The Edge’s patio is tucked away among tall, leafy plants. Take a peek inside to find a calm atmosphere that is perfect for an afternoon martini. Their Agave Suave made with tequila, pernod, hibiscus and pineapple is a definite tropical winner. As evening falls, the patio picks up to the Granville Street beat and transforms into a hoppin’ dinner and drinks destination. Here, many partygoers connect over drinks before heading to the clubs that dot the energetic area.

The Edge Social Grille and Lounge was one of the restaurants we visited on the recent Foodie Tour hosted by Michelle Ng. I so much enjoyed the flatbread samples at The Edge provided for the tour, that I vowed I would return for a meal at the Grille as soon as I had an opportunity to do so.
It was around 8:30 on Sunday evening after a couple of hours of dance classes that we decided to drop in to The Edge for a light supper. Our server Briana, was quick and efficient. Having expended a lot of energy we were really hungry so to get an idea of the range of dishes, we decided to share 4 appetizer plates.
While I sipped my wine, my companion indulged in a Caramelized Pear Martini: Absolut Pear with Cointreau, butter ripple lime and apple juice.
The food arrived promptly. First up came the crispy chicken wings with honey, garlic and lime and the calamari with green chillies, scallions and roasted lemon yogurt. We enjoyed both dishes.
Then we got the homemade Dungeness crab perogies with bacon, sour cream and chives. Finally came the dish that had brought us back to The Edge - the flatbread with beef tenderloin, blue cheese, roasted onion and fig, rosemary and radicchio. It was as delicious as the sampler had been. I am not much of a pizza fan- at least the normal thickness pizzas but I really quite like these flatbreads.
This is a nice place for a light supper. They have a great patio and it is conveniently located on the corner of Granville and Helmcken. We were happy with the food and with the service

On The Edge
With Granville Street rapdily transforming itself, The Edge Social Grille & Lounge (page 76) is the latest to check in. A modern dining lounge in the lobby of the Best Western Chateau Granville, it boasts a menu encompassing the West Coast and a host of other tastes. Asian influence arrives with garlic-and-chilli wok squid, while the ravioli takes a Mediterranean tack. Truffle mac and cheese suggests that comfort food has gone up-market, while lighter fare yields Albarcore Tuna nicoise. All are offered with wines by the glass and, later, heady cocktails that draws an enthusiastic late-night crowd - Tim Paswey

The Edge Social Grille and Lounge on Granville, Vancouver
Friday is my favorite day of the week. That is day out - with our boys blessings. Nanzaro and Arkensen is at the age when they are just glad to get rid of us from the house.
A couple of Friday's ago, Suanne and I decided to go for a movie. As much as we could do the movie in Richmond, we decided to go downtown and at the same time check out the new restaurant we had walked past several times the past months. We came across The Edge because we often parked along Granville Street. Parking was (is?) free because I think of the road constructions the city was making. I don't think this will be free for long ... but until they start collecting for parking, we will always park here when we are downtown.
The Edge is new. It is about 1-2 months new. Located at the intersection with Helmcken St along Granville St, the Edge lies smack in the midst of the Granville Entertainment District. This section of Granville St had undergone a lot of changes the past year and I like the changes I see.

The Edge - Social Grille & Lounge on Granville Street
By Kenneth Law, MMV dining writer
Recently opened on the corner of Granville and Helmcken, The Edge may have just managed to pick out a coveted, underserved area in the downtown region. With the recently revamped Granville strip nearing completion, a chic lounge open for both brunch and cocktail hour could just his the spot and give the area right off the bridge more character to complement the strip bars and nightlife.
Interior decor is spacious, lined with wood trim for the walls and flooring, comfortable sofas and windows that allow plenty of lighting, presenting a comfortable setting for both day and night time activities. A couple of private rooms allow for small groups of special functions.

The Edge Social Grille & Lounge is also among the newest arrival on Downtown Granville Street and is located right across the street from the Refinery in the popular Chateau Granville at Granville and Helmcken. This large modern dining room has 108 seats, the lounge has 92 seats and the restaurant is crowned by an 80-seat patio set deep into a large street front courtyard. Casual fine dining by Chef Travis Rea with a menu combination of West Coast and Global fusion.
Amir Virani, the owner of Chateau Granville and The Edge, was beaming with the comments of guests over the vast renovations and delighted with the turnout of more than 700 guests. Charming James Drummond is General Manager while the adorable Dave Sarich is his assistant GM and Restaurant Manager... Spotted travel food and wine writer Lenora Hayman perusing the new venue along with gourmet Sid Cross, food critic Don Genova and his pretty wife, travel writer John Lee and columnists Jane Mundy and Sean Laven. Fun afternoon ...

Summer - drinks!

The Edge Social Grill opened two nights later, again, complete with rockin' full patio, lovely drinks, and engaging staff. Their cocktail list looks fantastic, and I loved sipping on the Crashing Concorde - absolut vanilla, triple sec, limoncello, kiwi puree. Both Dave, one of the general managers, whom I insisted on calling Mike all evening, and Kyle, one of the assistant managers, were engaging, entertaining and I can't wait to go visit them again soon. GREAT looking cocktail list.
